...is very crucial. Never give up the opportunity to go first.
Going first allows you to set up with those 6 opening cards. It also makes your opponent have to play to your setup, giving you a slight advantage in that sense as well.
Open up with a good 6 cards and a nice opening setup, and you've got a pretty good shot at winning. Open up with neither, and things might not look good for you this game.
Which is why TCG decks like X-Sabers, Gladiator Beasts, and Blackwings are so good. Sure all three can open up with a nice setup. But they can do it consistently. Sabers play at least 4 different monsters that setup well (Giant Rat, XX-Saber Emmersblade, XX-Saber Darksoul and Sangan). Gladiator Beasts can set up well with their Spell/Trap lineup, especially with all of their defensive traps. And Blackwings can set up well with Icarus Attack and/or Black Whirlwind.
But they can also play well if they have to go second, which is what makes them stand out.
Also, that means that going first Game 1 is important. Which means that the dice roll to determine who actually starts Game 1 becomes important.
